Koh Tao Island, (Turtle Island) is an amazing tourist destination, right in the Gulf of Thailand. It is mainly known for its vast turtle population, hence the name ‘'Turtle Island''. Up until the 1980's, the island had been unexplored as a tourist destination. In the 80's however, it took off as a tourist hub. With over 300 days of sunshine each year, the Island is ideal for those who want to enjoy some warmth and possibly catch a nice tan.

There is no shortage of tourist activities in the Koh Tao Island. Many tourists visit the island for its serenity, rich culture, and wildlife. Fun activities include:
Koh Tao is famous for its pristine white sand beaches. The Sairee beach, which is roughly 1.7km long, is a favorite spot for tourists who want to enjoy some peace basking in the sun. The Chalok Bay is a smaller beach on the island but is equally good.
Scuba diving and snorkeling are favorites for tourists who wish to see the wide variety of colorful and breath-taking marine life, including the turtles, coral reefs, and numerous fish species. If you're lucky, you might see a bull shark swim right past you. The water is very clear, hence under-water visibility of up to 40 meters. Whale sharks are often spotted around Chumphon Pinnacle, just a 15-minute boat ride from the island. Whale shark encounters are a pot-luck affair in these parts, but they’ve been spotted year-round, especially from April to June.
Koh Tao offers off shore activities such as taking a hike in the mountains, rock climbing, and cliff jumping. You could also hire a motor bike to help you move around the island. The terrain for most roads is however rough. You might want to take some extra caution or have someone move you around.
